Harambee's Summer Academy stands as a prominent initiative within the organization, dedicated to fulfilling its mission and vision of nurturing leaders. The purpose is to enrich the lives of our scholars by offering a diverse range of classes encompassing arts and intellect.

Build University (B.U.)

At BUILD University, our high school scholars will have the opportunity to grow and develop in the exciting fields of music, film, fashion, and entrepreneurship to name a few. B.U. is designed to help them discover their passions and cultivate their talents, while also providing valuable leadership and life skills. Scholars will work with experienced instructors and fellow participants to learn new techniques and strategies. They will have the chance to put their skills into practice through hands-on projects and exercises.

By the end of the 10 sessions, scholars will have gained valuable knowledge and experience that will help them pursue their dreams and make a transformative impact in the world.

  • At Harambee they’re not just building artists. They’re shaping hearts, minds and developing the next leaders of this generation.

After The Bell

Harambee After The Bell is addressing the needs of our community by providing a safe space for students to be after school. We are building positive relationships between the student population and our Harambee Youth Advocates. Through team building, athletics, performing arts enrichment, games, and academic support, we are sowing into tomorrow's leaders today. We understand that the scholastic well-being of our children is a high priority, but we also believe in prioritizing the holistic development of those in our care.

Harambee Performing Arts

Harambee Performing Arts (HPA) is a trailblazing creative arts branch of Harambee Ministries. With a focus on serving the Pasadena community, HPA strives to produce passionate artists through mentorship, and development of skills in music, dance, visual arts, theater training and performance to enrich, inspire and transform the lives of its students. Harambee provides creative outlets in their summer programs, after school enrichment, and community outreach efforts. Tune into a previous production that takes its viewers through the brilliance of the Harlem Renaissance, The Heart of Harlem or our most recent production, Bethlehem: A Harambee Musical.

“Help with homework is very personal, the tutor identified the needs of each of my 3 children and helped according to their needs. This program is a life saver in my household. With both parents working, making sure our kids are learning and on top of their school work, was a major challenge to say the least. “It takes a village to raise a child,” and the Bee Program has been that village for us. The love, the attention, the accountability, and the fun provided for our children in this program is so precious. The value cannot be calculated. We are beyond Grateful!”

B.E.E. Program

Bridging the Gap. Education, Enrichment.

Harambee BEE Program provides tuition-free academic enrichment to underserved youth of color in Pasadena and its surrounding communities. The BEE Program serves scholars ages 6-17, and is dedicated to increasing academic success through rigorous tutoring and accountability. The Harambee BEE Program partners with Pasadena Unified School students and families to ensure they have access to a community of adults who are committed to advocating for their academic well-being. The BEE Program also provides culturally responsive curriculum for Eliot & Altadena Arts Magnet schools that empower scholastic improvement, character development, and intergenerational leadership for youth.

Power Talk

Harambee Power Talk is a program dedicated to conversations with PUSD students around topics that are meant to challenge unhealthy belief systems and thought patterns. Power Talk is an attempt to address the social-emotional needs of our students from a culturally relevant perspective. We are committed to empowering scholastic improvement, character development, and intergenerational leadership.

We build upon concepts like:

  • Vision

  • Growth Mindset

  • Discipline

  • Courage

  • Empathy & more

  • Harambee is not just a performing arts program, it is so much more. It is a great place to learn and grow, the highlight of my summer, and it’s a great place to make friends.
